Durries are flat woven rugs or carpets used traditionally in India as floor-coverings. They are popular because of their bright colors and creative designs. Most people prefer durries over carpets as they are cheaper and easier to maintain. They have variety of use depending on size, pattern and material. The durries are easily portable being light in weight and can be folded. They come in variety of color combination and patterns catering to the needs of every taste and occasions. The durries have low cost of maintenance, as Silverfish or other bugs responsible for destroying carpets, do not infect them.
Durries can be used through out the year- a cotton durry is warm in winters and cool in summers. Durries can be made using four types of materials: - Cotton - Wool - Jute - Silk This material is first converted in the thread and than woven in durries. Durries are familiar objects in almost every Indian home. They are made in bright basic colors such as yellow, red, green and blue. The patterns executed on durries range from floral, bird and animal to geometric. They are used on floors, beds as well as divans. Truly versatile, durries have come a long way from being simple utility items, to exquisite gift and home décor items.
